Dolce & Gabbana Q Eau de Parfum Review (2024)

Dolce & Gabbana Q Eau de Parfum Review (2)

This regal and refined fragrance is the ‘Queen’ counterpart to Gabbana’s ‘King’ perfume. Designed to function as a seamless blend, these two fragrances are fuelled by passion and instinct. With the campaign focusing on the unity of both masculine and feminine influences, this line is deeply enriched with erotic and sensual juices, making for the perfect pairing. With fresh Sicilian lemons and rich sour cherries, this perfume is bold, noble and majestic. I tested the aromatic fragrance to decide if it really is the Crown Jewels…

The Most Important Thing About Q Is…

Sizzling and intense, this fragrance is most important about the tension between King and Queen. Meant to be enjoyed as a duo, these two fragrances embody the masculine and feminine energy of a relationship, and how these seamlessly work together. Where Q is fruity, sweet and light, K is woody, aromatic and heavy. Based on traditional gender roles, these fragrances ooze sex appeal, with signature scents made to be used as his and hers. Gabbana’s irreverent influence shines with these scents.

You Will Love This If…

If fresh, quenching scents are your jam, you are in for a treat. Aiming to put out the intense fiery energy of the King, this scent is lighter, more sophisticated and keeps her cool. The elegant packaging, with the pink juice, is contrasting with the blue colours featured on the King bottle. Leaning into traditional gendered colour choices, buyers can instantly recognise that pink = is the girl’s one, and blue = is the boy’s one. Looking past this almost simplistic decision, the fragrance is beautiful, and it is the scent instead that speaks for itself. Whether you are looking for a refreshing and zesty scent or the perfect accompaniment to a white summer dress, this is the perfume for you.

You may also love this if you are an avid perfume collector. The bottle is such a statement that looks good in the midst of any fragrance shelf and these two are so symbiotic that you’ll be needing both of them. The only thing left to do is press add to basket…

The Story/Inspiration Behind Q:

Master perfumer, Daphne Bugey has created a campaign that is golden, intense and steamy. Featuring chiselled models dripping in chunky jewellery, this fragrance focuses on the balance between masculinity and femininity, or King and Queen. The protagonists of the story find themselves isolated in a vast desert landscape that is bristling with heat and tension. After a wild ride through the barren land, the advert culminates with both models embracing in a powerful and explosive caress. Their magnetic relationship takes us on an unexpected journey of adventure and discovery and then closes with a harmonious equilibrium between King and Queen. This balance seems flawless, with their bodies pressing up against each other in a way that is like it’s meant to be. It is exactly this restoration, back to the natural order of things that Gabbana has encapsulated here.

Hero Notes:

With an ideal balance of both sweet and sour, this fragrance opens with strong lemon head notes. Fresh and energising, this citrus splash creates a cheerful and uplifting mood. Delivering brightness, bitterness and zest, lemon is obtained by cold pressing the peel, giving an aroma almost exactly like the natural scent of the fruit’s peel. This tonic and emblematic fragrance is the perfect opening to such a majestic perfume.

Deepening the fragrance is the fervent cherry heart notes that are tangy and tart giving this fragrance a creamy almond nuance. Reminding me of sweets, cough syrups and pies, this fruity ingredient has a hidden musky layer. Mature and seductive, the cherry in this fragrance is what I could particularly pick on. Noble rum and dried fruits create a complex composition, one that lends this fragrance an impressive and versatile body. I specifically liked how the cherry included in this fragrance became earthy, spicy and sensual. I think had this not been included the fragrance would have smelt gorgeous, but would have been slightly hollow, the cherry adds a distinct richness.

An otherwise sweet and feminine scent, the intoxication of this perfume is dragged down by musky cedarwood. Herbal and strong, this creamy and opulent scent acts here as a rich and milky foundation. Reminding me of the smell of guide camp – nostalgic, smokey and warm, cedarwood adds both woodiness and a hint of freshness. Evergreen and intense, this infuses warmth, intensity and depth to an otherwise light and fresh scent.

How to Make Q Last Longer?

For optimum performance and desired sensuality, spritz Dolce & Gabbana Q onto your pulse points – wrist, inner elbow and neck. Do not rub the fragrance, as this will alter the way it develops.

What’s Special About The Design?

Continuing the sovereign theme, the bottle is both impressive and grand. The focal point of the vial is definitely the lid. Weighty and tactile, the cap boasts a scarlet and gold crown, embossed with Dolce & Gabbana’s iconic lettering. I was immediately drawn to the intricate detail of the crown, which proudly sits as a closure to the rest of the bottle. The rest of the packaging is sleek and indiscreet, with an almost transparent bottle, giving way to the smallest blush of apricot pink liquid. The contrast of the clear body of the bottle compared with the hefty crown makes for a unique design, one that encapsulates both the riches and proprietary of the Monarchy.
